Free Updates are now available for version 4 and also for the Gold edition (version 5) DVDs. There were released on February 21, 2012.

To get these free updates, open your computer program and click Help > Check for Updates.

This update adds almost 500 photos of bird's eggs and nests. It also increases the number of birds in each program.

   The annual AOU changes to North American bird taxonomy are out. The Common Moorhen is now called Common Gallinule. The genus of many wood-warblers has been changed and the sort order is completely different. (Setophaga replaces familiar genus names like Dendroica.) Snowy Plover has a new species name. Some of the asian birds are now placed in the family  Muscicapidae and the order has been rearranged.  
     
   The yellow-rumped Warbler was NOT split.  
     
   The free update for version 4 and the Gold edition will be available in early September.

We installed Lion and then opened the version 4 Thayer Birding Software. Everything worked fine. Feedback from others all say the same thing -- no problems at all.

The Gold edition (version 5), Birds of North America version 4 and Birds of My State or Province version 4 have free updates that were just released.

These free updates include the recent taxonomic changes made by the American Ornithologists' Union as well as many minor improvements to the program.

Version 4.0 will begin shipping on March 14, 2010. This version will run on both Windows and mac computers, including Snow Leopard and Windows 7. The program is contained on one DVD disc.

A new CD-ROM is now available from Thayer Birding Software.

Birds of My State v3.9 for Mac was released this week. The price is $49.95.

Mac users can now install this CD-ROM and then select any one State, any one Province or any of ten regions of the country to display. Depending on your choice, you may see 350-400 species. All features found in the Guide to Birds of North America v3.9 for Mac are available in the Birds of My State v3.9 for Mac. The only difference is fewer birds and fewer quizzes.

-- For both Macintosh and Windows. Corrects a problem when sightings are imported from version 3.0.0. Also changes the genus for Belted and Ringed Kingfisher to Megaceryle.

The 3.9.2 update was released on December 12, 2007. Most folks using a Mac computer will need to install this free update. It lets the program run on 10.4.11.

(Do not install the 3.9.2 update if you are running Windows - this is just for Mac users)

The long-awaited Macintosh version is now available.
This will run on Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.4.10

An update will be available soon for those running 10.4.11 and 10.5 (Leopard)

A free update is now available for those who already own version 3.9.0

The help Desk is now moved to its new location and working properly.

The move to the new web site last week has caused some major problems with the Help Desk software. We are working hard to fix this. If you submitted a Support Ticket, please be patient.

We hope to have everything straightened out by the middle of this week.

The link in the "Get Help" section will now let you download the free v3.5.4 update file. This had been unavailable for a few days as we moved to our new web site.

The file to register the older version 3.1 program is also available. Those of you who still have version 3.1.2 should look at all the new features in version 3.5. This new version was released in March 2006. You can upgrade to version 3.5 for just $19.95. This is a limited time offer.

We are making the final "tweeks" to the site today so that registration and file updates work as expected. Things should be back to normal by tomorrow morning.
