Special Quiz on the Birds of The Gambia (Africa)

This is what I have always wanted to be able to do with this software -- let anyone create a quiz on anything!

Take Multiple Choice Quizzes, Fill-in-the-Blank Quizzes, Flash Card Quizzes or Pick One Quizzes. The photo above shows a Pick One quiz I created that features the birds of The Gambia (a country in western Africa).

The bird photos in this quiz that I made for myself were copied (for my own personal use) from the Field Guide I took with me in January to Mali, Senegal and The Gambia. I also found some images on the Internet. (Use www.Google.com, type in the bird's name, and click the Images link within Google.)

Now you can go way beyond the Birds of North America and make a quiz on anything such as Foreign Birds, Butterflies, Wildflowers, Trees or Fish. You could even make a quiz on the Constellations in the night sky! Heck, you could even make a quiz on people in your school or U.S. Presidents...

Creating My Quizzes is very easy.

Start by adding Categories. Here are some possible categories: Birds of Africa, Butterflies, Wildflowers, Frogs, etc.

Then add items to a Category. An item will typically be a species. Each item must have a name and a photo. You may also include an alternate name (perhaps the scientific name), up to three additional photos and a sound file for each item.

Next, add Quizzes. Under each Category you can make as many quizzes as you like. For our Birds of Africa category, we may have quizzes called Birds of Kenya, Birds of South Africa and Birds of Egypt.

Finally, add items to each Quiz. This is easy to do -- just move an Item into the Questions area of a quiz. If we have an item named "Ostrich" in our Birds of Africa category, we would simply move it into the Birds of Kenya question area and it would become one of the birds we see when taking that quiz. The same item can be added to many quizzes.

Alert: When creating your own quizzes, you can add photos and a sound for each species. Then when you take a quiz and select "Picture and Sound" in the Media section of the quiz setup, you will see just those items where you have a photo AND a sound for each species in the quiz. However, if your quiz is on Butterflies (and you did not include any sound files), selecting "Picture and Sound" will probably result in an error message that tells you "Sorry, based on the source and media you selected, there are no quiz questions available."  The easy way to fix this is to select just "Picture" in the Media quiz setup section.

But suppose you made a quiz on the Birds of Australia and 400 species you added have sounds but 150 do not. You would like to take a quiz with "Picture and Sound" but you do not want to skip over the 150 bird species without sound. One solution is to add a sound file for these 150 birds that is SILENT. That way the program will display these 150 birds along with the other 400 because it "thinks" there is a sound file associated with that species.

Here is a free mp3 sound file you can download in order to do this:  Silent.mp3  [right-click and select Save Target As]
