I'm new to bird watching and my questions are likely too fundamental for this forum. If so, please suggest a more appropriate forum for me. I live in Ohio and our property has forest and meadow areas. The sounds of birds are always in the background here. I have witnessed migrating birds of specific species stopping at our place from time to time. However, yesterday we had an unusually large amount of birds all morning of many different species, including robins which had already been gone for some time. Most of the species were ones that we normally see on our property, but some were birds that I seldom see. This morning there was not a single bird to be seen and it was strangely silent. I didn't see the first birds, a chickadee and a turkey vulture, until mid afternoon. Others followed and the silence is over. However, there are still very few birds compared to the usual. Were the birds migrating together and did many of my resident birds take off with them when they left? |
