more flexibility in custom lists and ID wizard

It would be great if some of the functionality (e.g., habitat, song type) of the ID wizard could be used in editing previously made custom lists... For example, if I have a custom list for my checklist area and I am going to be doing point counts in forested habitat, it would be nice to subset my area custom list for just forest birds, etc,.

And the other way round, if I could use a custom list (again, my area checklist) as a starting point for the ID wizard, that would be great. The location tab is too broad for a lot of states/provinces.

PS. really looking forward to 4.0 so I can run it on Snow Leopard...

It takes less than five minutes to make the type of subset list you mentioned. If I were doing something like that I would create a new Custom List by opening the ID Wizard and click Clear All Tabs so I started with evey bird on the DVD. Them I would click the state or province I wanted and then I would check the box at the bottom that says to exclude rare and accidental birds.

Next I would click a habitat like woodlands. When I do that for Florida, I see 199 species. When I click the Group tab and check Perching Birds (Passerines) the list shrinks to 122. At this point I can quickly uncheck the remaining birds that I do not want on my new Custom List.

When finished, I click "Save as Custom List" and from there I can take quizzes or study just those birds on my Custom list (by clicking Filter and selecting Custom List.)
