For the past 12+ years I've lived in N.Michigan on a small lake in a house with a boatwell. Every year we've had Barn Swallows nesting in the boatwell, flying right outside of our windows, chattering in the mornings and sitting on our balcony railing. Last year, there seemed to be fewer of them, and this year, there are NONE! (I did spot one skimming the lake with tree swallows, but none are nesting in the boatwell or sitting on our railing.)
Also, Whip-poor-wills seem to have disappeared from our woods; at least I haven't heard any for a few years now.
Our location is rather remote; only four new houses have gone up in the area and they are located at some distance from our house. Everything else remains the same, at least from a human standpoint.
Is anyone else noticing these birds disappearing from their area?
Thank you.
