Recently got new updates to the program, still at 3.9.1. The program will only give an option of 25 bird collection. I don't know what happened to the total guide. Sandy

The field guide problem of not opening went away. Go figure. I closed and restarted the program. Every thing seems OK! Sandy

I am having the exact same problem. I keep getting only the 25 Bird Sampler to show up. Restarting the computer sometimes works/somtimes doesn't. After restarting my computer 3 times without success, I completly removed & re-installed the program, but have not added any of the updates. I now get all the birds again (But all my sitings & comments I put in have been lost). I am getting really frustrated that only 25 Birds of the 900+ will appear. (No filters are checked)

Actually, the problem is wieder than that. I completly unistalled the program, then re-installed it. The first time it worked fine, the "Guide to North America" was right there. Closed it, re-opened it. Nothing but the 25 bird sampler. While waiting to download updates, I constantly closed & opened the program. 9 times out of 10 it opened with only the 25 bird sampler. The other time it opened just fine. This is the most frustration & aggravation I have ever dealt with in a computer program.

my problem is that i can not open at all the birder hand book, i really don't know if it is because i have windows vista and i have the 3.5 version of the software .. somebody can help with this problem?? thanks and happy new year everyone!!

I installed my copy to my computer and it worked fine. I took a trip for a week, or, so and when I returned, I experienced the same problem with only 25 birds appearing. Since I couldn't figure out what else to do, I reinstalled the software and it has worked properly since then. I cannot recall whether the program asks to install or or repair, but choose teh latter if that is an option. You might want to copy your original folder to another location in the case you have any special files such as bird lists. I did not, so I didn't have to worry, but if you lose anything ihn the reinstall, you should be able to copy back those files,

The Birder's Handbook will not appear if you install v3.5 on a Vista computer. We had to completely rewrite the program to get it to work in Vista. Vista was released will after we released version 3.5. Call 800-865-2473 to order v3.9.1 -- this is the only version that works on Vista. There is a 20% loyal customer discount. ----------------------- The 25 Bird sampler problem is one that occurs if your computer does not "know" your 16-digit license key. This is easy to fix. Click Help. Then click "Manage License Keys..." and then click "Add" and enter your 16-digit license key. It is inside the plastic case, just above the CD. Then click "OK". Then click "Close" Now your computer "Knows" the license key. Click the blue icon that says Field Guide and select the program you want to see. You may have birds of two different states installed, so here is where you make the selection. If the program does not "see" a valid license key, it reverts to a 25 Bird Sampler. That is why you are seeing it appear. Once you tell the computer which program you want to see, this issue should go away.
