I am strongly considering buying a new Apple IMac workstation with the dual core Intel processor. What is the news about running "Windows only" programs, especially Birds of North America v3.5 on a dual Mac system? Is "Parallels" the best software to use? I've heard mention about "Bootcamp" software. Should I start out with Windows XP on the Mac? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sandra

Sandra - don't know if you've made your decision yet, but I figured I'd chime in. I have run BNA 3.5 with no problems on both a MacBook and iMac 17" (both Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz, the generation previous to the current machines) via Parallels, and can recommend it without reservation. You will need to have a full copy of Windows (XP works great, you can purchase an OEM copy of XP Home from newegg.com for about $90), and Parallels will run just about anything except games very well. I would recommend getting 2 gigabytes of RAM in the Mac if you plan to run Parallels - this gives both the Mac and Windows operating systems room to run efficiently. Finally, my Intel Macs are, hands down, the best computers I've ever used. I built my own Windows machines for several years before switching to the Mac last year, and have had absolutely no regrets. Based on anectotal evidence, I seem to part of a wave of people who work in the "Windows IT world" who have switched to the Mac in the last year - with the ability to run Windows when necessary, on top of all the advantages of the OS X operating system, there's no reason to stay stuck with just Windows any more.
