Thayer's software has added greatly to my enjoyment of birding.

I just upgraded from Thayers version 3.5.4 on a computer running Windows XP. I am now using version 3.9.1 and my new computer comes with Windows Vista. I would like to be able to import a number of custom lists from my old computer. I exported these lists to xml files using the custom list manager in version 3.5.4. When I move these files to my new machine and try to import them I receive an error and the process ends unsuccessfully. The following error is displayed:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. I you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

There is an error in XML document (2,233)."

Is there a patch for this problem or some type of work around? The very same files will import correctly on another XP machine running version 3.5.4.

The v3.9.1 should import all sightings and custom lists from v3.5. If you did not do it when you install v3.9.1 you can always click File --> Import from previous version (assuming both copies of the program are on the same computer).

If you get a new computer and want to transfer files, what you have done should work. I will pass you question along to our programmers to see what the solution is.

Issues like this are rather unusual. Please submit a Help Desk ticket when you run into something this odd, especially whenever you get an error message.
