I've been using version 3.1 for many years now and although the software useful, I find the interface to be very poorly designed. As a former applications programmer, I can't understand what the designers of this software were thinking. They seem to be totally unaware of design conventions! For example, adding species one at a time when creating custom lists is frustrating -- the convention here would be a multiple-selection list so that the user need only traverse the list once. Another user option missing here (but usually provided in similar software) is the ability to create a new list from an existing list. I could go on to mention many other shortcomings, but these should suffice to give you a general idea. It is for this reason that I am still using an older version and have not updated my restricted state version to the full version. This is not an inexpensive application, and the buyer is entitled to a much better thought-out product for $85.

I couldn't agree more. I waited with eager anticipation for the Mac version, and while I like many features of the guide, I was terribly disappointed that I couldn't add species to many lists at once or copy one list to another (e.g., "Yard List" to "State List," etc.). Booo. Hiss. Lanark

The Custom Lists can be created one bird at a time, but I find it is much easier to use the ID Wizard to filter a list of birds and then add or delete individual birds there. I then click Save as Custom List. This is exactly the feature you are asking for.

I am adding your request to copy and paste birds from one Custom List to another to our to-do list for the next update.

The v3.1 user interface was rather clunky and hard to read. The new v3.9 is much easier to use.

We are very interested in hearing about new features you would like to see or about improving existing features. As in this example, there is often more than one way to accomplish the same thing -- we just need to do a better job of explaining it in our help files!
