We just wanted to send you a picture of our Thayer software display area.  It is next to the register area and constantly running one of the many slide shows.  Since setting this up, sales have really increased.  We'll be ordering more soon. Thanks for a really great product.

Hey Pete! I love it when a plan comes together. You told me in no uncertain terms that if I set up a computer in my store for customers and used the demo software I'd sell it. Boy were you right. I put in a computer with a large monitor and loaded the software. I set it up for my state and easily made a custom list which scrolls pictures and calls of birds as the screen saver. That really catches their eyes. In two days I sold out the 4 copies I had in inventory. If a customer started playing with it, they bought it. I showed them a few of the features like the ID Wizard and then just let them try things alone. Talk about a product selling itself! I appreciate you being able to rush me more copies. Dear Pete,  

After a few years of trying to sell the software with not much luck, we finally invested in a computer to run demos. The whole set up, with 19" flat screen monitor, was delivered for only $500. We should have done it years ago. We installed the demo software Thayer provided and had it up and running yesterday.

My employees can't keep their hands off it, and customers love it too. No longer will we answer their bird id questions - now they can just put the info into the computer and get the id themselves. Along with the song, comparison with other birds they thought it might be, and so much other info. And the quick link to The Birders Handbook answers all those other tought questions. We haven't found a single question we couldn't answer with the software. And it's a lot easier to play a bird song from the software than it is to put a Peterson Western Birdsongs in our CD player, find the right track, and try to hear it over the counter noise. We love it!

I own the Backyard Bird Center in Kansas City and I promised to write an email about how I have the Guide to Birds of North America playing in my store. I have had a dramatic increase in sales of your product since the day we set up a new computer display for our customers. Here is what we did:

Like most small stores, our space is limited and adding a computer (even an old one) to have CD's and DVD's playing on was really not very convenient for us. I consulted my computer friend and he installed a new video card in our cash register/computer that enables us to play two different programs on two different monitors at the same time. I purchased an inexpensive flat panel monitor and hung it up like a picture frame next to our cash register. Each day we start up BNA and set it on a looping Flash Card style quiz. We then drag it over to the "display" monitor and let Petey do his thing. Your display box loaded with "Our Birds" Missouri, Birds of My Region and Birds of North America sits on our counter just under the monitor. We also display a copy of the Birder's Handbook with them to show what a great bonus is on each disc. Each employee has created a "Favorites" list and we often have one of those playing but we also use the Kansas City, MO Christmas Bird Count List as well as Missouri Birds.

It really is a wonderful product. Thank you for all of the hard work that you and your employees have put into BNA to make it such a valued product for our store.

Pete- Thanks for the "Free Computer"!!!!  A little over a month ago I bought a computer and monitor from my local Staples Office Supply for $799.95. I bought it primarily to demo your software in my Wild Bird Center store and as a result of using the hardware to show your software I've now paid for the computer. I still haven't read the manual (I can't stand manuals) but it's user friendly enough to get me through the demo I've set up for prospective customers.

It also made me a better birder! Prior to your software I had no idea who was singing in my woods, but after having the software run on "flash cards" I've been able to identify 5 warblers I've heard but never seen before. Thanks again for the FREE COMPUTER !! (and send 12 more programs),

The "Secret"

When I mentioned to my husband, Mac, your comments about wanting to know our secret of selling so many of Thayer Birding software CD-ROMs, his comment was “ Well it’s very easy to sell a product that is so good”.  I think that about sums it up, Pete.  We, which includes our staff, have all viewed the Birds of North America and have every confidence in recommending it to our customers.  Then of course, there is the technical support which you offer.   That is invaluable in today’s competitive market.  Bottom line - we have never had anyone offer a single negative comment about Thayer birding software.   Thus the product sells itself, mostly by word of mouth.  We do carry Peterson, Audubon and even Yardbirds, but we can honestly say: compared to Thayer they are not even in the running.

We're Nova Scotia, Canada's only dedicated wild bird store and are in our fourth year of business. We've got "Birds of Canada" on a dedicated laptop in the shop and the quizzes definitely close the sale.
