v3.0 - Use the Spectrogram to Play My Own .Wav Files
Problem: Can I use the Spectrogram feature with any sound file?
Solution: The Raven Lite program included in version 3.9 will let you play your own sounds. Please refer to the User's Guide within Raven Lite to see how to do this.
The Spectrogram, included with the program in versions 3 and 3.5, will show you a picture of the bird's song. But you may also use this feature to view your own sound files (.wav format only).
See the bird's song using the SpectrogramTo view the spectrogram, select any bird that has a sound recording. Just below the photo in the eFieldGuide viewer you will see:
Sound Recordings:
Overall sample (play | loop | spectrogram )
Click Spectrogram. The sound recording will take a few seconds to load and then you will see the spectrogram. Click Help, then click Help Topics, then click Display and Program Operation for an explanation of what the lines mean.
To display your own recordings, open the spectrogram and click Function. Then click Analyze File. You can now search your computer for the .wav file you want to display. Select the file and click Open. You will now see a spectrogram of your file.
Please note that this will only display simple .wav files. It will not display MP3 files or advanced wave file formats.
If you have a microphone attached to your computer, you can record your own voice, save the file and then play it back using the spectrogram. (Try whistling, talking or singing do..re..mi). This is really fun at parties!
You can purchase the full version of the Spectrogram software for about $50. Buy The Spectrogram Software.
