Problem: My version 3.1.2 CD-ROM won’t install because I don’t have Administrator Privileges or I installed it under the Administrator Account, but it won’t work under my user account.

Solution: Version 3.5 and above do not have this problem.  Version 3.1.2 uses a Windows component that requires Administrator Privileges before it can be installed.

Method 1. Log in as an Administrator and install the program. Once it’s working there, log in as the User and try to install the program. It will not duplicate the files, but it will add the correct registry entries and add the icons and Start Menu links. If that doesn’t work, try Method 2.

Method 2. Give the User account "Administrator" or "Power User Privileges" and install the program. Then after the program is installed, reduce the privileges back to your normal levels. This should allow the program to work.

Method 3. If you have many different User accounts on the PC where the program is to be installed, and there are too many to reinstall the program under each account, they we suggest creating a new User account. Install the program and set your permissions. Then your users can log into this “Birder” account when they want to use the program. That way you only need it to work under one account, but all of you users can log into that account on that PC.

You need to upgrade to the latest version of the software. Visit the Online Nature Mall to order.
