v3.5 - The Scroll Bar is Not Visible

Problem: I can't scroll down or I don't have a scroll bar.

Solution: The window is not sized properly or your display settings are not set right.

In version 3.5 and earlier, the program uses two windows. An outer window called the eViewer contains all the other windows. The inner window shows the birds, the ID Wizard, the quiz window, etc. These windows can be resized independently of each other. On occasion these windows can be positioned on your screen so that the scroll bars are not visible. To fix this, please try the following:

Open the program so you are looking at one of the birds. On the outer window, maximize it to full screen. You can do this by clicking the middle box (next to the X) in the upper right corner of the window. When it is fully maximzed the middle button should look like 2 boxes, one on top of the other. If it looks like one single box, then the window is not full maximized even if it looks like it is filling your entire screen.

Once the outer window is maximized, maximize the inner window, it will actually merge with the outer window and the minimize, maximize and close buttons for the inner window will become smaller gray buttons just under the control buttons for the outer window. This will let you know that the two windows are linked.

From now on, only use the outer buttons to control the window size or to close the program. The program will remember how you had it set last and the next time you open the program it will open the same way you left it.

If that doesn't allow you to scroll properly, then take a look at your display settings. Close all programs including ours so you are back at your desktop. Right-click in a blank area, not on any icon. A menu will appear. Left-click on "Properties". It should be the last item on the list. Your display properties window will open. Click the Settings tab at the top. Look at your color settings. They should be at least 16-bit (high color). If they are set to 256 colors or lower, please increase them. Then look at your screen area or resolution. This should be at least at 800 x 600. Finally, click the Advanced button and look at your Font size or d.p.i. settings. If it says Custom then this is probably the cause. We suggest using Small or Normal, but Large should also work. However, sometimes Large Fonts are too big and you won't see all the text. You will have to adjust your screen area or resolution if you use large fonts to make sure everything is displayed.

If this doesn't fix the problem, try this: Look for a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen, you may have to scroll right. At that point the vertical scroll bar may appear. You can also try grabbing the header and dragging and dropping down and to the left until you see the scroll bar again on the right.

Finally, the image area of your display may not be centered on your monitor or may be too big for your monitor's settings. You can move the display up, down, left and right as well as make it bigger or smaller. Check your monitor's documentation for making these changes. If your screen image is moved off the right edge of your monitor's viewable area, you will not see the scroll bar or anything on the right side of the screen.

Some of the newer mouse devices (IntelliMouse Optical USB) have a scroll wheel that lets you move up and down the screen. Many older models will not work (they just scroll up and down through the list of birds).
