v3.5 - To uninstall or not uninstall 3.1 or 3.0...
Problem: After installing 3.5 on a system that has 3.0 or 3.1 installed, the older icon is still on the desktop and the uninstall is still listed in Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs. There's also a question of "residue" from the previous version. Should I run the uninstall to get rid of this stuff? If not, how do I get rid of the icon?
Solution: For 3.5.0 users: DO NOT RUN THE UNINSTALL FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION. Because of a bug in the 3.5 installation, uninstalling version 3.0 or version 3.1 will actually uninstall everything, including 3.5.
For 3.5.1 users, this bug with the old uninstall was fixed. However, the old icon was not removed. You can remove this manually.
To remove the old icon, simply click, drag, and drop it in your Recycle Bin.
To remove the old uninstall, upgrade to 3.5.1 (it takes care of it for you).
The only other thing left over from 3.0/3.1 is the database. We DON'T remove it during the install because
1) there could be sightings and custom lists that need to be converted and that's handled by the eViewer (the program) and
2) that copy of the database is also used, potentially, by Birder's Diary 3.0 (not 3.5) and deleting it would mean losing everything. If you have converted everything you need from the old database and don't own or want to worry about Birder's Diary, simply delete the data folder and file: C:Program FilesThayer Birding Software data.
