v3.9 - Raven Lite 1.0 Will Not Display Spectrograms

Article ID: 000080

Problem: Raven Lite 1.0 opens, but nothing happens - I cannot see the spectrogram. The same thing happens when accessing Raven via the Start menu.

Solution: Windows XP and Windows Vista include a feature called Windows Data Execution Prevention. It is designed to prevent spyware from running unwanted programs on your computer.

With Data Execution Prevention set to "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select," Raven Light does not work.  When Data Execution Prevention is set to the default "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" then Raven will work.

Step-by-Step Instructions:
In Windows XP: click Start button | click Control Panel | click Systems icon | click Advanced tab | click Performance Settings button | click Data Execution Prevention tab. Now click the radio button next to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only." [Or, if you insist on keeping DEP for all programs, click Add.. and then select Raven Lite 1.0 to add it to your list.]

In Windows Vista: click Start button | Click Control Panel | click Systems icon | in the Tasks panel on the left, click Advanced system settings | click the Advanced Tab | click Settings... | click the Data Execution Prevention tab.  Setting DEP to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" will enable Raven Lite. However, if a user wishes to maintain strict DEP security, he or she can "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select," click the Add... button and then browse for and select Raven Lite. Whenever a change is made to DEP, the machine needs to be restarted.
