v3.9 - The Update Did Not Seem To Do Anything
Problem: I opened the program, clicked Help in the Menu Bar and then clicked Check for Updates. Something appeared to download and I installed it. But I still see the same version number and nothing seems to have changed. Solution: You need to run the update twice. The reason for needing to run Check for Updates twice is that the first time the update process itself is being updated. The next time it updates the application. The update process message describes what type of updates have been downloaded and need to be installed. When you Check for Updates, the program will first ask if you want to download the Update. Say OK or Yes. Then you need to install the update. When you click the Install button, you will see the progress of the install (for all updates after 3.9.8.1) and then a screen will say update complete. If you do not see this, these screens may be hidden behing the open program. You will need to close the program for the install to finish. The second update can take a LONG time (up to an hour). On rare occassions there may be a temporary problem with our web site and the updates do not work. You can check to see if the web site is working properly. If you can see an XML file when navigating to this address http://birding.lightshipinc.com/manifest.xml , then the update service is available.
