v3.9 - Cannot Install Program - "Administrator Account" Required
Problem: I have Vista and I cannot install v3.9 on my computer. There is an error message telling me I need an Administrator account -- whatever that is.
Solution: This is easy to fix: You have more than one user account set up on your Vista computer. But only one is the administrator account. When you reboot the computer or click "switch users" you will see each user's name and icon. You have one, your spouse may have one, there may be some for the kids and there may even be one called Guest.
In Vista you MUST install ANY NEW software using the administrator's account. So, just log in using that account and install the program. The program will then be available to anyone with an account on that computer.
This is a security measure introduced by Microsoft to prevent kids from installing things when parents are not there to supervise. In fact, even if your computer only has one user, Microsoft recommends that an Administrator account (with password) be created and then a second account be created. They recommend that the non-Administrator account be used for daily work.
