v3.9 - Program Will Not Open in OS X 10.3.9 (Panther)
Problem: The program installed but when I click on the icon, it just hops up and down and nothing happens. I have an old Mac operating system - OS X 10.3.9.
Solution: Do this ONLY if you are running OS X 10.3.9
Open a Finder window and go to /Applications/Thayer Birding Software.
From there, while holding down the Control key, click the eViewer icon.
Then select "Show Package Contents".
Double click on "Contents", then double click on "Resources".
Please copy the file libsqlite3.0.zip to your desktop, unzip it and put the file named libsqlite3.0.dylib in the Resources folder.
You can also delete the libtclsqlite3.dylib file from the Resources folder.
This should fix the database engine problem that we believe is causing this problem.
One user still had a problem after following these instructions.
Our chief programmer said to him: "I have not received any other reports describing the behavior you are experiencing. Can you please send a screen shot of what is happening when you try to check for updates? Also, please open a Finder window and go to /Applications/Thayer Birding Software. From there, while holding down the Control key, click the eViewer icon. Then select "Show Package Contents". Double click on "Contents", then double click on "Resources". Look for a file named "Log.txt". If the log file exists, please attach that file to the help ticket. Thank you."
The user wrote back "I think the Log file says it all...Error: ConnectFailure." I finally solved the problem by getting out from behind the firewall and proxy server."
If it still will not open and you have an older PowerPC, try this solution:
Download and install a newer version of the Mono Framework from:
http://go-mono.com/archive/1.2.6/macos-10-universal/6/MonoFramework-1.2.6_6.macos10.novell.universal.dmg
It is a slightly newer version than what is installed with the v3.9.3 update. We have had only one or two other cases with the same error message and this seemed to fix the problem. [One person reported that the Mono framework installation did not finish installing -- but when he tried to open the program, everything worked perfectly!]
