v5.0 - Error 1609 (non-English Windows)
Solution:
Try this first: The installer is failing when it tries to apply security settings because the Authenticated Users group has a different name on non-English versions of Windows operating systems.
You need to create an Authenticated Users group by performing the following steps.
1. Open a Command Prompt by going to Start->All Programs->Accessories and right-clicking on Command Prompt and selecting "Run as administrator". This will open up a command prompt with administrator privileges.
2. At the command prompt, type:
net localgroup "Authenticated Users" /ADD
This will create the Authenticated Users group.
3. At the command prompt, type:
net localgroup "Authenticated Users" "Utilisateurs Authentifiés" /ADD
[In French, the last e in Authentifies needs to have an accent mark over it]
This will add the French authenticated users group "Utilisateurs Authentifiés" into the newly created Authenticated Users group.
4. Install the eField Guide Viewer application.
Basically, this is just a permissions issue which should be able to be corrected fairly easily. Make sure you have read/write access to the Thayer Birding Software folder and all of its subfolders and files. Do this by selecting the \Program Files\Thayer Birding Software folder in Windows Explorer, right click and select the Properties menu. Select the Security tab then click the Edit button. From there, make sure that the Users group (or some other group their user belongs to) has Full control selected in the Allow column. Then click OK to accept the changes. This should fix the permissions problem.
Try this last. If you have this problem, please contact us as soon as possible and let us know your mailing address. We will send you new discs that will work for you.
When you get the new disc we suggest creating a temporary folder on your hard drive and then copy the contents of the entire disc to that folder. Then run the setup.exe file in the Windows folder located in your temporary folder to start the installation.
To get to the Language settings, open "Regional and Language Options" by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click "Clock, Language, and Region" and then click Regional and Language Options. Then click the Keyboards and Languages tab. Under Display language you can choose a language from the list. We recommend "English (United States).
