v5.0 - iPod Songs Show Wrong Image / Last, First Name Not Appearing
Solution: No good deed goes unpunished! We thought we would help users out by filling in a number of the mp3 tags - descriptive fields related to the bird songs that appear in iTunes. Examples include things like "Genre" and "Title." These were not filled in for version 3.9.0 but they were added in Windows version 3.9.5 and version 5.0 and Mac version 3.9.3. It is only these later versions that will have a problem with Last, First common names.
To fix the Last, First common name problem, you will need to clear out the mp3 Title tags, as described below.
For Windows XP:
When importing songs, iTunes uses the mp3 Title tag as the name of the song if the Title tag is defined, otherwise it uses the name of the file. We added the Title tag information thinking it was a help to users, but that turned out not to be the case. Fortunately, it is easy to modify the tag information in the files.
For version 3.9: Using Windows Explorer, go to the "C:\Program Files\Thayer Birding Software\eViewer 3.9\Media\sounds" folder.
For version 5.0: Using Windows Explorer, go to the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Thayer Birding Software\eViewer 5.0\Media\sounds" folder.
Click on the sounds tab so that all the song names appear on the right. Then select all of the songs (Ctrl+A).
Right click on these song names and select the Properties menu option. Select the “Summary” tab. You may need to click Advanced here. Then clear out the Title property (or any other properties you wish to modify for all files) then click OK. All songs should now have a blank Title property.
[Some folks report that when they click OK they get a message saying that the file is already open and must be closed. If this happens, you will need to drag the entire sounds folder and its contents to your desktop. Then follow the instructions about to remove the Title tag. Then drag the sounds folder back to the previous location. You should select "Replace All" if asked.]
Go to iTunes and delete any playlist or bird songs from the Thayer program. Now open the birding program and do an export for iPod and then import into iTunes. The songs should now show up with the last, first naming convention.
For Vista:
For version 3.9: Using Windows Explorer, go to the "C:\Program Files\Thayer Birding Software\eViewer 3.9\Media\sounds" folder.
For version 5.0: Using Windows Explorer, go to the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Thayer Birding Software\eViewer 5.0\Media\sounds" folder.
Click on the sounds tab so that all the song names appear on the right. Then select all of the songs (Ctrl+A).
Right click and select the Properties menu option. Select the “Details” tab and then click the “Remove Properties and Personal Information” link at the bottom of the screen. Select the “Remove the following properties from this file:” radio button. Check the box in front of Title (or any other properties you wish to remove for all files) and then click OK. All songs should now have a blank Title tag.

Now do an export for iPod and then import into iTunes. The songs should now show up in the Last, First common name format.
