Error 1304 and Error 2350

Problem: I have Windows XP. When the installation of the program gets to the copying files stage, it proceeds VERY slowly, until the fourth green bar appears in the status bar. At that point, the following error message appears:
"Error 1304. Error writing to file.
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.resources.DLL.
Verify that you have access to that directory."
Retry Cancel.

I press "Retry", and get this error message: "Error 2350. FDI server error." Retry Cancel

I press "Retry" again, and get this message: "Error 1334..." I'll paraphrase the rest. File ???.cab cannot be installed because it was not found in cabinet file 'CR1151.cab'. This error message cuts off so I don't know the rest. When I press "OK" (the only option), the installation terminates.

What is the problem, and how do I fix it?

Solution #1: The 1304 error message you are receiving is often the result of attempting to install software on WinXP, Win2000 or WinVista while logged onto the system with a Limited User Account.

Limited User Accounts do not have the proper permissions to install software. ONLY Computer Administrator accounts have the proper permissions to install software.

So, if you are using WinXP, Win2000 or WinVista, the first thing you'll want to do is to make sure you are logged onto the computer with a Computer Administrator account BEFORE you attempt to install (or uninstall) any software.

If you don't know whether or not your normal account is an Administrator account, do this:
A. If you don't know your user name, click on 'Start'. Then, look for your user name at the top or bottom of the Start menu.
B. Go to 'Control Panel' then open 'User Accounts'.
C. When the 'User Accounts' window opens, look under your user name. If you DO NOT see the word 'Administrator' under your user name, you SHOULD NOT attempt to install software - because ONLY Administrator accounts should install software on WinXP, Win2000, WinVista or Windows 7.

To make yourself the Administrator, click "Change Your Account Type" and then select Administrator.

Solution #2: We use a third-party software called Crystal Reports to help generate the Sightings reports in the software. According to Crystal Reports, a Windows Installer package containing the Crystal Reports XI Release 2 merge modules can fail during installation with the following error:

Error 1304. Error writing to file.
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.resources.DLL

The Crystal Reports XI Release 2 merge modules require the installation of .NET 2.0 on your computer prior to installation. Our birding software includes the .NET 2.0 as part of the installation and installs it for you if it is not there.

If you see Error 1304, it means that the .NET Framework has not installing correctly or something has gone wrong. It is not possible to tell if the problem is with the installation or a pre-existing condition.

We suggest doing a .NET Framework repair or, if necessary, uninstall the .NET Framework and reinstall it.

In Windows XP, the .NET Framework is an add on that can be managed from Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs. Then look for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (service packs may be listed), select it and click on the link “Click here for support information” and then click the “Repair” button. Note that this does not work for Windows Vista and Windows 7 since the .NET Framework actually comes with the operating system and is an OS component and not a separate installation add on.
